LIHEAP - Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

 

Application Information:

The North Dakota Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Application is available at your county social services office  or to get the application form, click here.  Applications are NOT accepted from June 1 to September 30.

What you may need to apply:

  • Name of person living in your home who is the “head of household.”
  • Copies of payroll stubs showing the gross earnings for the prior month and the current month for everyone in your household – W-2 forms are not acceptable.
  • Proofs showing income from Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Pension Funds, disability, veteran’s benefits, other public programs, child support/alimony and other types of unearned income.
  • Copy of your current heating bill.
  • Verification of medical expenses, court-ordered child support payments, and child care expenses.
  • You will be asked to provide Social Security Numbers on the application. However, you are not required to provide Social Security Numbers and it will not impact your ability to get any benefits if you do not provide them.

Do not send original documents. Make a copy of all proofs that you are including with your application.

Other rules that may affect your eligibility:

  • Asset Limit:  Households applying for or receiving fuel assistance under LIHEAP may have real and personal property assets not to exceed an equity value of $10,000 (plus $5,000 for each household member 60 years of age and over).  “Equity” is defined as the fair market value less encumbrances.
  • Citizenship Requirement:  Must be a legal U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  • Residency Requirement: You must be a resident of the county in which you are applying.
